The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features numerous hidden shrine quests that rely on environmental clues rather than explicit map markers. One of the most intriguing side activities in the Hebra region is The Bird in the Mountains quest given by a young Rito named Molli. Understanding how to decode her bedtime story allows players to discover a well-hidden cave and unlock an ancient shrine.
How to Start The Bird in the Mountains Quest
To begin this quest, travel to Rito Village and speak with Molli, a young Rito child who offers to tell Link a story. She recounts a tale about her grandfather, who once stood near a solitary cedar tree high up in the mountains. During his journey, he spotted a massive white bird spreading its wings in the distance with a secret buried inside its stomach.
Molli forgets the ending of the story because she usually falls asleep, but she points Link toward the lone cedar tree on Talonto Peak. Reaching this mountain spot is the first official objective for players wanting to solve the mystery. Equipping cold-resistant armor or eating warm meals is essential before venturing into the freezing Hebra climate.
Locating the Bird in the Hebra Mountains
Once you reach the lone cedar tree on Talonto Peak, stand beside it and face toward the northwest. Instead of searching for an actual living creature, look closely at the snow-covered cliffs across the landscape. The geography of the Biron Snowshelf naturally forms the silhouette of a giant white bird with outspread wings.
Soaring off Talonto Peak with your paraglider allows you to glide directly toward the center of this rock formation. As you approach the cliff face below the snowshelf, a small opening in the cavern wall becomes visible. This hidden cave represents the belly of the bird mentioned in Molli's bedtime story.
Unlocking the Mozo Shenno Shrine
Gliding safely into the mountain cavern reveals the glowing pedestal of the Mozo Shenno Shrine. Interacting with the entrance completes The Bird in the Mountains quest log automatically. Entering the shrine reveals a Major Test of Strength combat challenge against a powerful Guardian Scout.
Defeating the high-level Guardian requires well-timed dodges, shock arrows, or elemental weapon combos to break its defense. Once defeated, claim the treasure chest containing a valuable diamond before receiving your Spirit Orb. Completing this shrine provides a convenient fast-travel point across the treacherous Hebra mountain range.
